Ko Wai Tātou? Who Are We?

Tainui School encourages and supports each child to achieve their personal best in all areas across an engaging, integrated and balanced curriculum. Learning occurs in a welcoming, responsive, caring and safe environment where having a growth mindset, taking reasonable risks and learning from mistakes is valued. There are varied opportunities provided in classrooms, breakout spaces and the outdoors, where small group, whole class, independent, co-operative and collaborate learning occurs.

Positive Education practices promote wellbeing and personal development within the school community – a community with a shared vision that includes celebrating diversity. Children are very well supported and staff members work in collaborative ways to ensure progress and achievement in all areas is enhanced.

We utilise the philosophy developed by PLAY IS THE WAY® to strengthen children’s social and emotional skills. Guided play, focused activities and an empowering language are all part of this approach that is more about behaviour education than behaviour management.  The resulting self-regulation skills foster independent, self-motivated, empathetic and life-long learners who know the immense value of community and citizenship.

The basis of Play Is The Way lies within these five life rafts:

Our strengths, as identified by the Education Review Office, ensure that children learn and flourish throughout their time at our school due to;

  • a committed staff who take collective responsibility for learner progress and share high expectations about all learners’ achievement.
  • strategic leadership that is committed to realising the school’s vision of being a caring community where everyone learns and flourishes.
  • an inclusive, welcoming and diverse school community, characterised by mutually respectful relationships between learners, staff and whānau.
  • the fostering of te ao Māori through practices that embrace our bicultural heritage.

We’d love you and your family to become part of our school community. You are very welcome to contact us or to call in if there’s other information you’d like to have or questions you want answered.
