Ko Shelley tōku ingoa
You can learn more about me and my whānau from my pepeha.
I am very proud of the ethos we have at Tainui School that provides children, parents, caregivers and whānau with a learning environment that is caring, positive and based on the concept of hauora - a model used in Te Ao Māori. This leads us to fostering academic, physical, social, emotional and spiritual health, which together enables us all to learn, contribute and flourish. I also enjoy the fact that our children and whānau represent a range of ethnicities - New Zealand Pakehā (64%), Māori (13%), Pasifika (11%), Asian (7%), other European (5%), and Middle Eastern, Latin American, African and Canadian (4%). The inclusion of Te Ao Māori, teaching of Te Reo Māori, a focus on tikanga, and a commitment to enacting Te Tiriti o Waitangi, are all very important to us.
A strong partnership has been established with our community. The Board is dedicated to effective governance, delivering on the expectations of the community, and working collaboratively with staff. We also have a proactive Parent Teacher Association and a supportive Whānau Roopu.
I am most fortunate to be surrounded by a capable, professional and approachable team that is committed to high quality teaching and learning, and to nurturing and valuing the individuality of all children. There is also, as you would expect, a strong focus on quality literacy and mathematics programmes which are supported by an engaging and wider local curriculum.
Our vision is developed and taught through our school values, the five life rafts, teacher and student agency, and the New Zealand Curriculum. All of these are underpinned by Positive Education which focuses on identity, citizenship and relationships.
Tainui School has many strengths and these have been identified by others, including;
-having dedicated staff who take collective responsibility for learner progress and share high expectations about all learners' achievement
-strategic leadership committed to realising the school's vision of being a caring community where everyone learns and flourishes
-an inclusive, welcoming and diverse school community, characterised by mutually respectful relationships between learners, staff and whānau
-the fostering of te ao Māori through practices that embrace our bicultural heritage.
'A caring community where everyone learns and flourishes' is our vision that encapsulates what belonging to Tainui School is all about. I look forward to meeting you, chatting about what's important for you and your tamariki and showing you what Tainui School can offer.
